Yes, I know "O'Reilly" is spelled differently on the cover of the book. The spelling on the cover is incorrect. I've not only seen original correspondence with the gentleman, but there is a self-portrait in the book with the name on the portrait spelled "O'Reilly" and, if that isn't enough for you...*this* copy of this rare title is inscribed (to fellow vent Bob Brethen!) and autographed...and he spelled it "O'Reilly"!

          This is a rare vent title. I've often wondered if Mr. O'Reilly was a tad embarrassed about the whole misspelled name thing and didn't bother to really push the book very much. Over the past 35+ years, I've only seen about four or five copies of this book. It's not as rare as the Helm book on vent history....but relatively speaking, it's a tough one to find! The information in this little volume is quite interesting. O'Reilly addresses a few things other vent books don't touch upon. His ideas on manipulation of the dummy are quite good...he's got some really clever "work" on combining eye, lip and mouth movement, etc. Of particular interest in this book are the chapters on Famous Ventriloquists, Living Marionettes, Ventriloquial Experiences and even "How to Procure Engagements"! Some really fascinating reading in this book...
