HOW TO BECOME A VENTRILOQUIST Book by Edgar Bergen

          Back in the late 30's, this was the book you wanted if you wanted to be a ventriloquist!

          Bergen and Charlie had the #1 rated radio show and ventriloquism was HOT. I'm sure many kids woke up on Christmas morning to find an Effanbee Charlie doll (or one of the many knock-off's) and this book! Bergen himself always said that he didn't actually know who wrote this book. He definitely didn't write it himself. In fact, the author's choice of sound substitutions in the section on basic vent technique is rather poor. On the other hand, the section on the distant voice is much more in-depth and is, in fact, quite good! Additional chapters including how to stage your performance, giving a performance of distant ventriloquism, using shadow puppets, etc.

          Even though this was sort of a "puff piece" book written for the general public, there is some real value in some of the material.

          Original copyright 1938. This is the Dover Publications reprint, printed in 2000. Measures approximately 5-1/4" x 8" and has 125pp; perfectbound with glossy cover.
