La Vellma (David J. Lustig) was a press agent and advance man
in the 1920's and 1930's. He worked with a number of well-known
magicians of the day, not only as press agent but in writing material
for them. I'm not exactly sure why he thought knowing about magic and
writing about it would mean that he could write about vent. Some of the
advice he gives and ideas he espouses are questionable, at best. The
only somewhat accurate instruction is the material he gleaned from
Ganthony's earlier works on vent.
The first 14 pages of this book are in
the form of ten lessons (plus "ventriloquial afterthoughts"). The
second section is more in Lustig's area of expertise: Pages 15 through
28 are dialogue jottings, complete routines, suggestions for acts, etc.
The last few pages are ads items available from Kanter's Magic.
This is
the SECOND edition, published by Mitchell "Mike" Kanter, 1952. 32pp,
approximately 6" x 9" with softcover. This copy is nice and tight. Near
MINT condition.... which is remarkable, considering it's nearly 70 years
old!
Comes in an archival mylar sleeve with acid-free backboard.
