This is a truly top-of-the-line professional BIRD vent figure that was a special custom order from the legendary figure maker Brant Gilmer.

          Brant was one of the best kept secrets of the vent community. Brant built all of my personal performing figures. Well-known among collectors of high-end figures and performers using higher-end figures, Brant is definitely not as well-known as some of his contemporaries. Brant is a quiet, unassuming, humble guy... and he always preferred to let his work speak for itself. He didn't need to get up on a chair and beat his chest and tell everyone just how wonderful his work is.

          Every Brant Gilmer artistic creation is hand carved from wood (just the way they used to make 'em...only better!) and features the very finest mechanics. In fact, it is probably the animations and mechanics in his figures that he is best known for. Brant's day job was as a mechanical engineer, so it should come as no surprise that the mechanics in his vent figures are incredibly smooth, unique and innovative...not to mention durable. Operating one of Brant's figures is akin to driving a Rolls Royce. When you grasp the head stick and operate any of the controls, you realize you are operating the ventriloquist's equivalent of a fine musical instrument. There is simply no other experience like it.

          This is certainly one of the more unusual ventriloquial figures I’ve handled over the years!  I don’t know if this figure was originally designed to perform Sammy King’s “Francisco” act, but it certainly appears that it could have been, as the coloring of the bird is close. For those who prefer a hard figure over a soft figure, this would be an ideal “Francisco” if they were licensed to perform Sammy’s classic routine.

          This unusual bird figure features a head on a headstick with ball and socket movement. The mouth/beak movement is silky smooth and can be easily seen in the largest of theaters. The large, expressive eyes feature side-to-side self-centering movement. In addition, there are shell blinkers for the eyes that operate on a single control. For a whimsical touch, there are small levers that operate each wing independently (these levers are visible in the rear view photo of the body).
          The carved wooden feet are specially designed to allow the bird to sit flat on a surface, as well as to perch on a bar. Even though this figure is only half the length or height of a traditional figure, it sits just as high as a standard full-sized figure and is visible to even the largest of audiences.

          As a BONUS, this figure comes with a hard shell case with a foam insert that fits the bird perfectly.

          The figure appears to be brand new. If it was ever used at all, it certainly was not used much.
