"Double Talk - The Ventriloquist's Guide" was the very FIRST magazine published for ventriloquists. The brainchild of figuremaker Revello Petee, he published and edited the magazine for two short years...from 1937 into 1939. The initial issues were mimeographed on cheap paper...the second volume was in a smaller format and offset printed on glossy stock.
This wonderful issue of Double Talk from May of 1938 features a script by George McAthy and Revello Petee, a clever magic trick by Herb Rungie (to be used with a figure), a short script by Arthur Dauer, columns by Revello, George McAthy, Richard Haldane from Canada and "The Masked Ventriloquist" and more. Also includes a really cool full page ad from figure-maker Frank Marshall!
Interestingly enough, even though this magazine was published in 1938, the Masked Ventrioquist was STILL around until just a few years ago... it was none other than Peter Rich! Peter probably had the distinction of being the ONLY vent who wrote for virtually EVERY ventriloquist magazine ever published!
Lots of GREAT reading in this one! 15pp, 8-1/2" x 11" magazine. This RARE magazine is in VERY FINE condition. The paper is highly acidic and has browned with age and is brittle...but it is ALL there with very little chipping.
Comes in an archival mylar sleeve with acid-free backboard.
